Denpasar and a COZY Massage!

Up bright and early again for breakfast by the pool before taking a taxi into Denpasar - the capitol of Bali. We had the driver drop us at the main market - Pasar Badung - a huge indoor/outdoor market selling foods, spices and clothing. Walking through the market was a breeze - telling the throngs of sellers NO to every item was a pain after a while. That's what happens when you're one of maybe 3 white folk in an asian market :) The street aligning the market is filled with textiles - any type you want. Although we are looking for some nice batik, it was impossible to determine what was good and what wasn't - although the sellers tried to convince me that all of their stuff was great! Again, my favourite words - no thank you - just looking!! After heading down some side streets to get away from the sellers, we finally found our way to Museum Bali - next door to a beautiful temple. we strolled the grounds taking pictures then toured the museum. We read some reviews of the museum and most were not very favorable however we found it quite interesting - not huge and in some need of repair but well laid out and informative.

After about an hour and a half, we decided to try to find a well reviewed restaurant so off we went. After another an hour and a half of walking in the heat and sun, we gave up and asked for directions at a local hotel (amazing race??). They were very helpful and called us a taxi - which we gladly accepted and quickly came to realize that not only were we way off course, there is NO WAY we would have found it walking ourselves! The travel was worth it - the food was good and cheap!! Finding a taxi from the restaurant on the other-hand was another adventure. We decided to walk a few blocks to a major intersection and wait there - only to enjoy watching cars maneuver in and out from each other to cross east/west and north/south (with no traffic light!) Crazy busy but hilarious - you could see motorbikes wait for a car to slowly inch out into traffic and follow beside, knowing well that they would be better protected! Quite funny and strategic but everyone made it safe! Finally a taxi appeared in the distance and picked us up to take us for our massage at COZY. Friends of ours (Frank and David) recommended this place so we thought we'd try it out. We arrived and I quickly ran in to see if we would be able to walk in as we did not reserve - I was not sure it was going to happen as there were about 12 people sitting around waiting - but we got in - 2 - 1.5 hr massages for $15/each. And a great massage they were - I can still feel it in my calves and upper back - will certainly try to make it there one more time before we leave. A short drive back to our villa for a quick dip and rest - then out to dinner agan at Nirvana as they were having a traditional Balinese dancer that night. We enjoyed watching one dance, finished our dinner and to be by 9:30 - exhausted! Next stop - UBUD
