Next stop..... Lovina Beach

 Cremation Tower

Tuesday May 14 - Cremation Day As we bid farewell to Ubud, our driver Bobi arrived to pick us up at 10AM. We were a little disappointed that we did not know about the cremation ceremony prior to our arrival as this would have been amazing to see, however we didn't so on we went. First stop enroute were several "side of the road stops" to take photographs of the beautiful vistas and rice terraces along the way. This area we traveled through is where most of the fresh produce is grown as it is at a higher elevation and cooler -a welcome treat to us North Americans!

Our first "official" stop was the beautiful temple by the lake - so serene and peaceful - certainly one of our favourite temples for sure. Not very crowded and with the clouds surrounding the hills behind the temple, an amazing photo opportunity. Followed by a quick lunch at a local restaurant, we were on our way again. Next stop was GitGit waterfalls. We needed a guide (not sure why but apparently we did) to take us down to the base of the falls. Very beautiful spot but not as tall as Fortuna in Costa Rica. On our way back up the hill we had to stop at our guides aunt's shop and then his wife's shop. We bought a small amount of vanilla (at far more than we could have at the Depensar market) just to keep on going. Again the demand for sales takes away a bit but that's what tourism causes unfortunately. Onward we went heading into Lovina - a quick phone call to find our spot and voila - arrival. We said good bye to Bobi for the last time as he was not available to take us back down to Uluwatu on Thursday. He is a great guy and if ever you need a driver, ask for Bobi through Made Tours. We are staying at Adirama Beach Hotel - a small hotel located directly on the beach with a nice pool outside our front door. A nice spot but could use a little fixing but nonetheless nice. The beach however is quite dirty - lots of garbage washed ashore, shoes, plastic bags galore (use reusable people!) - I did note this morning however there were a couple guys cleaning so it does look better now. It is now Wednesday morning here in Bali - Tuesday night for you. We awoke bright (or should I say dark) and early at 5:30AM to head to the beach for a traditional boat ride out to watch the dolphins feed. We weren't sure whet to expect but once we traveled for about 1/2 an hour there they were - 20-30 dolphins gliding through the waters, jumping and diving. Such an amazing view - these creatures are so beautiful. We had ample opportunity to watch and Michael took lots of pictures -as you can see from the big one on the blog. An amazing opportunity not to be missed if you are ever in Lovina. After about 2 hours we headed for shore, had our breakfast and then crashed for a bit - partly due to the early rise and partly due to the gravol induced sleep (just in case). Now we are ready for our next adventure - but you'll have to wait because even WE don't know whet that is!!!
