Finally into Ubud and now to find our accommodations. After asking several people on the street, Bobi was finally able to locate it next to Cafe Chilli.
Our accommodations are in a private residence - the owners , originally from Toronto, have a small guest house on the property that they rent out. Nice accommodations with an outdoor shower and a salt water pool ( ahhhh - so nice after a hot days walk!!). We bid farewell to Bobi but told him we would probably want him again for our trip to Lovina in a few days. He was more than agreeable!
For the rest of the evening, we wandered around town, had a light dinner at Copper Coffee ( a great little restaurant down the road) then an early night to get ready for the next day.
Day 2 in Ubud started with a nice breakfast back at Copper coffee next to the Sacred Monkey Forest. And monkey forest it is!
We entered the gate, bought some bananas and immediately were attached! They were all over poor Michael - on his back, on his head, and climbing up his shorts. Crazy - drop the bananas and walk away! This place is NUTS! We continued to walk around and all of a sudden a very angry monkey started running at me - it stopped.... I became a little fearful of the teeth it was showing me... then a worker chased it away saying it was a mother protecting it's young that I apparently was too close to - although there were so many around who could tell. The rest of the walk was fine - but we constantly were watching over our shoulder.
Once out of the forest we headed to town to check the sights. Shops, shops and more shops! taxi? no thanks. Massage? no thanks. taxi? no thanks. Massage? no thanks (getting the hint!) Although you were asked every few feet, no one was aggressive thank goodness.

Kecak and Fire Dance |
While walking around, a young man approached us to sell tickets to one of the famous dances being held that night. We bought 2 to see "Kecak and Fire Dance outside in the Padang Tegal Temple that evening.
After a bite to eat at OOPS Cafe, we headed to the Royal Palace to see the ceremonial Cremation Tower being built. A member of the Royal Family had recently passed away, and on May 14 the cremation will be held. This is a HUGE event that takes approx. 1 month to plan and build the tower. We hope to be able to see some of the procession before heading out on Tuesday as we've only seen it in a documentary. This is once in a life time for us.
On the way back for a rest, we decided to book a tour for the next day to see some of the amazing temples and rice fields. After a short rest we headed back into town for the show. It was great! Amazing costumes, masks, sounds and dance - a real must see if ever in Bali!
After the show, a bite to eat and then a taxi back as it was dark and a walk through the dark trails home was not in the plans for that night.
Good night Ubud - until our tour tomorrow.
